An aircraft policy usually has two parts. Liability coverage pays for bodily injury and property damage you cause to others, including passengers. Hull coverage pays for physical damage to the aircraft itself, normally on an agreed-value basis, and can apply while the aircraft is flying, taxiing or parked.
Underwriters look at the pilot (certificates, ratings, total hours, time in make and model, and recent training), the aircraft (type, year and hull value), how it is used, where it is based and whether it is hangared, and past claims. More experience in type and recurrent training generally help.
Usually, yes. A flight school or FBO policy is written to protect the owner of the aircraft, and you as a renter may still be responsible for damage or liability. Renter's (non-owned aircraft) insurance covers your liability and damage to the aircraft you rent, borrow or fly through a club.
Federal rules generally do not require private, non-commercial aircraft owners to carry insurance. In practice, lenders require hull coverage on financed aircraft, airports and hangar landlords commonly require liability coverage, and commercial operations such as charter and flight instruction have their own requirements.
Yes. We place coverage for piston and turbine helicopters, aerial application operators and commercial or recreational drone (UAS) operators, along with owner-flown pistons, turboprops and jets.
The N-number, year, make and model, the hull value you want insured, your home airport and whether the aircraft is hangared or tied down, plus each pilot's certificates, ratings and hours. Our quote form walks you through it.
